Katharina Althaus is world champion
24. 02. 2023
On the second day of competition at the 43rd FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Planica 2023, Sweden's Jonna Sundling and Norway's Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo defended their world titles in the sprint race in classic technique.
Sweden's women's team dominated the final round as they claimed the first four places, with Emma Ribom and Maja Dahlqvist finishing 2nd and 3rd.
The men's sprint race in classic technique was all about Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo. The Norwegian won his third world title in this discipline as he cruised to the victory in the finals, with time to give a victory wave to the fans. A photo finish decided second place, as Norway's Pål Golberg was just two hundreds of a second faster than Jules Chappaz from France.
Katharina Althaus clinched her first career individual world title on the normal hill at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Planica 2023. The German, who succeeded 2021 World Champion Slovenian Ema Klinec, was joined on the podium by Austria's Eva Pinkelnig and Norway's Anna Odine Stroem.

On Friday the men's ski jumping qualification will begin and the women's Nordic Combined champion will be crowned for only the second time in history. All eyes will be on Norway's Gyda Westvold Hansen, who won the first ever title in 2021.
