A busy Friday in Planica

Slovenian Timi Zajc won the qualification round for the individual ski jumping competition on the large hill at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships Planica 2023. He was followed by two Polish ski jumpers, David Kubacki and Kamil Stoch, whilst defending champion Austrian Stefan Kraft came in fifth.

Timi Zajc topped the leaderboard with a distance of 136 meters and a score of 142.5 points. Zajc will go into the final round as one of the favourites for the gold medal in Planica's final individual ski jumping competition on Friday, starting at 17:30.

Salute the Norwegian women's team

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica, the Norwegian women's team consisting of Tiril Udnes Weng, Strid Oeyre Slind, Ingvild Flugstad Östberg, and Anne Kjersti Kalvaa won the gold medal in the 4 x 5 km relay. With an excellent performance, especially in the third leg when Östberg tipped the balance in favour of the Norwegians, they gained a decisive advantage over the second-placed Germans to defend their title from Oberstdorf. The Norwegian quartet has now won a total of 20 medals in this discipline. For Norwegian women cross-country skiers, this is their sixth relay gold in the last seven World Championships. Only in 2019 in Seefeld they were beaten by the Swedes, who finished third this time around in Planica.

A busy Friday in Planica

There are still three days left until the end of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Friday will firstly see the men's 4x10 km relay race in cross-country skiing, where the Norwegians are expected to dominate. The race will start at 12:30.
The highlight of the day will be the ski jumping competition on the large hill, where Stefan Kraft will attempt to defend his title against a flock of hungry jumpers led by Slovenian Timi Zajc, who won the qualification round yesterday. The first round will start at 17:30.
